An Overland flight 1186 involving ATR 72 aircraft, with registration number 5N-BPG from Abuja airport to Ilorin, veered off the runway at low speed after a normal landing at the Ilorin Airport. It was carrying 59 passengers and four crew members. This was disclosed by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), which stated that there was no casualty in the incident that occurred on Saturday evening. In a statement signed by the General Manager, Public Affairs, NCAA, Fan Ndubuoke, the Authority explained that the incident occurred at 4.45p.m. But report from the airport indicated that the incident occurred when the aircraft suffered a tyre burst after landing but the pilot was able to control the aircraft after it veered off the runway. NCAA said the Accident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB) has launched an investigation into the cause of the incident.

Creative Nigeria and Nollywood stakeholders met with Jonathan and PSquare was blacklisted. So urces close to  Psquare hinted the invitation extended to them was not to come to a parley with the President like thousands of others invited but to come and entertain guests, a request that comes with a fee .

Daughter of Late professor Akunyili, Njideka Akunyili has been announced as the 2014 winner of James Dicke Contemporary Artist Prize by the Smithsonian American Art Museum. She will be the 11th winner of the $25,000 award, which recognizes an artiste below 50 who has produced a significant body of work and consistently demonstrates exceptional creativity.  International and Cameroonian soccer star Samuel Eto’o has got married to the mother of his four children, Ivorian Tra Lou Georgette in a private ceremony on Monday 24th November in Capiago Intimiano, in the Lake Como area, Italy. Eto'o reportedly proposed to Georgette back in July although the pair has been traditionally married since 2007. They have now been together for about 10 years. Over 200 people were reportedly killed in the bomb blast that occurred yesterday afternoon at the Kano Central Mosque where the Emir of Kano usually leads prayers. Some eye-witnesses and rescue officials put the figure at 300, making it one the deadliest bomb attacks in Nigeria. According to eyewitnesses, three bombs went off one after the other at the 10,000 capacity Mosque during the Friday Jumat prayers. Two went off inside the Mosque, and one outside. And when people tried to flee the scene, gun men opened fire on worshipers. Many of the casualties were children who couldn’t run as fast. Some were trampled to death in the mayhem that ensued.

Nigeria’s Petroleum Minister, and head of the country’s delegation to the ongoing 166th General Meeting of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC, Diezani Alison-Madueke,  has been elected the president of the international oil body. Mrs. Alison-Madueke, who makes history as the first female to be elected into the office, was  elected just as members of OPEC began their meeting at the headquarters of the group in in  Vienna, Austria.She succeeds Libyan Vice-Prime Minister for Corporations, Abdourhman Atahar Al-Ahirish. Until her election, Mrs. Alison-Madueke, who would serve for one year, was OPEC’s alternate president.

The estranged wife of a London hedge fund manager was awarded N92723,499,992 -ninety-two billion seven hundred twenty-three million four hundred ninety-nine thousand nine hundred ninety-two (£337 million $530 million, 425 million euros) on Thursday in one of the biggest divorce settlements seen in a British court. Details of the payment to US-born Jamie Cooper-Hohn, 49, emerged after a draft judgement was given to lawyers ahead of a final ruling. Cooper-Hohn’s lawyers were reported to be considering an appeal to get an ever bigger payout. Cooper-Hohn had separated from her husband Chris Hohn, 48, after being married for 15 years and the two had fought over assets worth over £700 million. Hohn had offered his wife a quarter of the fortune, but she argued that their wealth was the result of a partnership.

According to The Punch , no fewer than sicty-three senators as of yesterday have signed up to the plan to impeach President Goodluck Jonathan in the upper legislative chamber which includes 8 PDP senators. The source said the lawmakers’ major grouse was the President’s handling of the economy and political affairs of the country – poor implementation of the national budget since 2011, alleged high level of corruption and “gross disregard” of the legislature at both the federal and state levels as topping the list of lawmakers’ anger against Jonathan. The source further said: “We know and we are prepared to show the President that we have responsibility to the people and the nation in general. We are prepared to lay the impeachment notice anytime from next week. Meetings are already being held.” Senator Ibrahim Musa (APC Niger North) confirmed that there were moves by some members of the Senate to initiate impeachment proceedings against the President but failed

Femi Kuti has revealed that two of his five children – Dupe and Tosin – are not his. In a recent interview with Encomium, the Afrobeat singer claimed he found out after a DNA test was carried out on them and confessed to being disappointed. “I did a DNA test and was told two of the children are not mine. The first two, a boy and a girl. It is very serious. I never knew somebody could give you what is not yours. I’ve three boys now. I can’t father children I was tricked to believe I am their father,” he lamented.
